GOMEZ STILL DREAMS

The Catania midfielder Alejandro Gomez has revealed that he still has high hopes of playing for the Argentina national team, despite not being selected yet by the manager Sabella. The 24-year-old has been one of the best players for Catania this season. He arrived at the club back in 2010 and he has risen to be one of the important players this season. He has so far scored four goals in 14 appearances he has made in the league along with the five assists as well. His form has not gone unnoticed after that have been calls for his selection into the Argentina national team.

Alejandro Gomez has revealed that he is aware of the fact that it is extremely difficult to get into the national team, while it is even more difficult for players playing outside the big clubs like Milan and Juventus. Even though he has said that playing for Argentina will be his main priority, he has not ruled out the possibility of representing the Italian national team if the opportunity to play for the South Americans does not arise. There have been a number of players in the past who have chosen the Italian national team on the basis of being naturalised rather than being born in the nation.

“Here in Italy, people see me playing every week and they see I’m doing fine, scoring goals. So they ask me: ‘When do you think you’ll be called up by Argentina?’ But I always tell them the same thing. In the position I play, there are players that are world class. They play at the top clubs in the world and I think it’ll be complicated for me to make it. I realise I play for Catania and that doesn’t exactly sell papers like if I played, for example, for Inter. That’s the reality,” said Gomez.

READY IN TIME

The FIFA general secretary has recently said that all the whole stadium is intended for the purpose of hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup matches will be ready in time. However, Jerome Valcke recently said that he doubts whether the nation will be able to complete the construction work before the start of this tournament. He is currently overseeing the progress made by the South American nation in delivering the World Cup. Valcke has said that he is expecting that more than 500,000 fans will be making the trip to the South American nation in order to see the World Cup.

As a result, infrastructure like transport and hotel also needs to improve, but Brazil are still a long way off from meeting the demands of the tournament according to Valcke. He has recently said that an unnamed city has just 17,000 hotel rooms despite having a stadium capacity of more than 45,000. The country has spent more than £ 9 billion in updating the infrastructure aspects in all the host cities. This includes aspects like the renovated or newly built stadiums – which number in 12 – airports, and bus lanes. The Sports Minister of Brazil, Aldo Rebelo recently said that he wants to make the World Cup leave a lasting legacy on the nation.

“In one unnamed city there are 17,000 hotel bedrooms and a 45,000 capacity stadium for the World Cup. But we have now moved from talking about the problems to talking about the solutions. We are able to find and answer the problems,” said Valcke. FIFA and the Brazil government have already come at loggerheads regarding a number of issues. However, it is expected that Brazil will certainly be not completely ready in number of ways for the 2013 Confederations cup that will take place in the summer.

RONALDO STILL UNSURE

The former Brazilian striker Ronaldo has said that he is not overly confident about the chances of his nation winning the sixth World Cup title when it competes for the competition in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Due to the fact that this major tournament will be held at Brazil, they are the overwhelming favourites to beat the other teams and win the sixth World Cup title. Brazil are the record holders for the most number of World Cup titles won, which currently stands at five. However, the former Real Madrid and AC Milan star has all but written off the chances of Brazil winning this competition.

He has said that people are extremely confident that they can win the title because the competition is held at home. However, they should acknowledge the fact that Brazil are currently in a crisis at the moment. They are currently in the worst ranking in the history of FIFA rankings. Further, the team are looking to evolve under the new manager with many young players like Neymar and Oscar. Players like Kaka and Ronaldinho are past the prime, and the dependence upon these young players will prove to be the major hindrance for the Brazilian national team according to Ronaldo.

“I’m sure we will be able to look back with pride and know that we organised the best World Cup of all time. The organisation, of course, has to be perfect. It will be perfect. We will guarantee it will be perfect. We have the worst FIFA ranking ever in history,’ he said. ‘It is a difficult moment for the national team. However, we will be playing at home. This will be added incentive, it will be motivation,” said Ronaldo. He has also said that he is confident that the nation will be ready to host the tournament.

STADIUMS WILL BE READY

The Deputy sports Minister of Brazil has said that he is confident that stadiums will not only be ready for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but also for the 2013 FIFA Confederations cup as well. This will be holding the 2013 FIFA Confederations cup as a precursor to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, there has been a real lack of development in the infrastructure within the country, while the stadiums are also only now being completed. The Deputy sports Minister, though, expressed his confidence that the stadiums will be ready in time to host these events.

A total of six cities will be hosting the 2013 FIFA Confederations cup and most of the stadiums are being renovated or being built from scratch. The national teams of Spain, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Tahiti and Uruguay will be landing in Brazil for this competition. The host nation Brazil will also be part of this tournament. The confederations cup will be held from June 15 to June 30. Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador is causing the biggest worry because the 56,000 seater capacity stadium is yet to be completed with only a few months remaining for the competition.

“These are complex operations, but we’re more than confident — absolutely sure — they’ll be built in time. Soccer is the king sport in Brazil, and Brazil is a world power in soccer, but the team didn’t deliver at the decisive moment. It was a national trauma and we need to overcome it. We really do hope to win the World Cup. Only three people have ever silenced 200,000 people at Maracanã with a single gesture: Frank Sinatra, Pope John Paul II and I,” said the deputy sports Minister of Brazil, Fernandes. Fernandes expressed his disappointment of Brazil not being able to win the Olympic gold medal.

NOT FINISHED YET

The Brazilian sports Minister Aldo Rebelo has said that he does not expect the nation to be the finished article when it comes to the prospect of hosting the FIFA World Cup, reported the Chelsea news website.

However, he has expressed his confidence that the nation will be able to deal with the burden on the infrastructure due to the arrival of thousands of tourists. The FIFA World Cup is one of the most watched events across the world. It draws crowds of more than million to a nation, which in turn helps the local economy. Brazil knew that they would be hosting the 2014 World Cup almost a decade ago.

However, it is only now that the preparations for the World Cup have started in full swing. As a result, a number of the aspects of the World Cup that were initially promised would not be delivered according to the sports Minister. Aldo Rebelo was in London in order to watch the London Olympics 2012. Since the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, fans have been complaining about the lack of proper facilities in the subsequent world cup. The 2014 World Cup also looks set to follow the same suit. The transport infrastructure, though, will be developed tremendously according to the Minister.

“We are going to do everything to ensure that the people who are coming to the World Cup are going to have the guarantee of security, of comfort of mobility within those 12 host cities. Some of the infrastructure will not be completely ready because it is an ongoing process. We are continuing to build the country. I have already placed this issue, with the organisers, with the sponsors, so that a suitable solution can be found so that these people can indeed have access to the stadia,” said Aldo Rebelo during his visit to London.
