Jorge Sampaoli Does Not Regard Germany As a Title Contender

Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli claims that Germany are one of the potential candidates for the World Cup 2018, despite being the defending champions. Argentina come into the tournament after having been almost knocked out. Only a late run of results were able to see the team into the finals. Lionel Messi was able to come in with a brilliant hat-trick against Ecuador to rescue Argentina. As a result, Argentina are not regarded as one of the favourites for the title success – despite coming close to the finals in the previous edition in Brazil.

The national team have been without a World Cup success for several decades. Even then, the popular options for the 2018 edition happen to be France, Spain, and Germany. Even Brazil are likely to be considered as a potential candidate after having come up with an impressive set of results since the appointment of Tite. Germany, though, are not regarded as a team capable of winning the event by Jorge Sampaoli. The Germans were able to win the previous edition with classic type of German football along with the presence of several young players in the squad. Those young players still remain in the peak of their powers and it will take a lot of effort from Argentina to overcome the defending champions – if they come up against the same at the event.

ENGLAND RISK MISSING THE FORTHCOMING WORLD CUP

England risk losing the forthcoming World Cup as MPs vote that they have no confidence in the country’s Football Association.

The vote is one that could hamper the preparation of the Three Lions for the forthcoming World Cup in Russia as it would be an offence considering FIFA’s political interference stance.

Though a ban is unlikely as it is expected that they would sit up when FIFA warns but the oldest Football Association in the world face a risk. Culture, Media and Sport committee MPs are not satisfied with the FA and could cut £30-40 million in funding, at the very least. The committee chair has said that a change in the way things are done is a guarantee.

However FIFA rules forbid interference from the political class of any country. The world football body has moved to suspend several countries in recent years for violating the rule. The vote of no confidence means the government would reform the governance of the association, directly against FIFA’s mandate. Continue reading ENGLAND RISK MISSING THE FORTHCOMING WORLD CUP

Germans Swell With Pride

It’s after a long gap of 24 years that Germany has reached glory as far as the World Cup is concerned and it means a lot to their fans. It means a lot even to the German public in general.

The sort of welcoming that the German squad got in Berlin yesterday was just fantastic. There were people everywhere jumping in joy, chanting players’ names, waving the national flag etc.

The leader of the pack, Phlipp Lahm, was the first to come outside the players’ plane with the extraordinary looking World Cup trophy in his hands. There was pride in his eyes as he made his way downstairs. The other German players followed their captain. All of them had big smiles on their faces.

People had bunked their offices to make their way to Berlin to give the World Champions a grand welcome. Most of them were painted in the German tri-colour.

The player whose name was being chanted the most by the fans was Mario Gotze who had scored the Golden goal for Germany in the final match.

The young midfielder was actually not one of the starters in that final. He was sent into the arena pretty late, but, he made the difference with a well timed volley 7 minutes prior to the completion of the extra time. That was undoubtedly the most valuable goal that he would have ever scored in his career.

Germany had been very consistent in the last few World Cups, but, they were not being able to go all the way. They used to have one bad day and they were out of the tournament, but, this time around, that was not the case. In all the 7 matches, they were on top strategy wise as well as execution wise and that resulted in them becoming the Champions.
