Stimac Reflects on Loss against Oman in 2022 Qualifier

India coach Igor Stimac watched his team’s hopes of starting the World Cup 2022 qualification campaign with positivity ended in a disappointment against Oman. The 2-1 defeat for India is a blow and the manager reckoned that the excessive dependence on Sunil Chhetri for the goals is one of the factors. Even though India were in full control for the majority of the game, they were unable to break the lines and build on the opening goal scored byChhetri.Chhetri’s goal was able to provide India with a lead after 24 minutes.

Just when it seemed that the team was going to get three points and begin the campaign in positive fashion,Rabia Alawi Al Mandhar came up with a brace inside the last 10 minutes to turn the game around. The result puts massive pressure on India going into the next game against Qatar. Since the team only has one game in October, Stimac would like to see his team claim at least a point against Qatar, who have begun the campaign in strong fashion after a whopping 6-0 victory over Afghanistan. This confidence is claiming victory is a major problem for India, who are not great when it comes to playing away from home. The away wins for the team since 2018 have come up against Thailand.

England’s World Cup semi-finalist admits he came close to leaving Tottenham

England international Danny Rose has admitted that he could have parted ways with Tottenham Hotspur shortly after his participation at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia. The left-sided defender had a tough 2017/18 season where he was plagued with multiple injuries and that dropped him down the pecking order with Ben Davies getting the nod for Spurs.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rose acknowledged that he was considering his future with the north London side last summer and even made contact with one of his suitors before the move failed to materialise, he said: “I am enjoying my football now. After the World Cup there was talk of me moving on. I was speaking to another club which obviously Tottenham know about but it didn’t happen. I called the manager after the World Cup and he just said to me that I was welcome to stay but said I would have to get my head down. At the minute the manager is bringing me on at left midfield and central midfield. I still feel like a really valuable member of the team.”

Conor Coady unperturbed after latest England snub

Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has said that he is not concerned by the latest snub for the England national side, given he is competing with players, who had reached the World Cup semi-final last summer. The centre-back has been influential towards Wolves’ success in the past 21 months and this recently earned him a new long-term contract with the club.

Speaking to Talk SPORT, Coady stressed that he had not thought about the prospect of making the Three Lions squad, considering the competition from the players, who helped the country reach the semi-final stage of the previous World Cup, he said: “I thought to myself all season that I’m trying to get into a squad that just reached a World Cup semi-final. They’re a really good squad. England is the pinnacle of any Englishman’s career. I’ve not really thought about it all year, to be honest. If it comes, it’ll be amazing, but I don’t overthink it because it’ll become a little bit of a problem.”
